What type of policy do I need?
The homeowner policy is a legal contract that provides insurance
protection on the house itself and on any detached structures
on the residence premises (not used for business purposes)
against all risks of direct physical loss not specifically
excluded in the policy. It also provides coverage for household
and personal belongings contained in that house against certain
specified named perils (such as fire or theft).
How much coverage is needed?
For those who own and occupy their home, it is always best
to try and insure your home for the full replacement value
(the amount of money it would take to rebuild the home using
current labor and material costs) as opposed to its current
market value (the amount of money a reasonable, prudent individual
would pay to buy your home). You can check with contractor's
in your area to determine your house's replacement value,
or you can get a professional appraisal. Remember that you
only need to insure value of your house and not the land on
which it is built |
